• Mr. Carlos García Sánchez received his J.D. Degree, from the Iberoamericana University, 1985.
• He has post-graduate studies from Panamericana University in the areas of Corporate Law and International Commercial & Financial Law, and from Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM), in Commercial Law.
Other Work
Mr. García has an active participation in different national and international transactions comprising public bids and procurement matters with Pemex, CFE, IMSS and other Governmental entities. With almost 30 years’ experience in the corporate sector, he has provided general legal assistance to its clients in financial transactions for the granting of loans and credit restructures, including the placement of different guarantees and financing of several projects related to energy, real estate, agriculture, construction, tourism and others. He participated in the corporate matters and due diligence process for the acquisition of important banking institutions, such as Banca Confia & Banamex, by Citigroup. He also has ample experience in mergers and acquisitions of important foreign and Mexican corporations and acted as In-house general counsel of important corporations such as Grupo Name, Fundacion E, TMM and others.
Energy projects has been part of his professional development, related to power plants (i.e. Pacifico, Chuhuahua, Tuxpan II, Tuxpan III-IV, Tula I-II), transmission lines (Caribe) & others (under Independent Power Producer, Build-Lease-Transfer, Public Financed Works). Also, he has assisted important companies with subcontractors’ issues, with strong negotiations with them as well as with Pemex, CFE and other Governmental entities, in the matter of construction contracts, compliance and labor.
Mr. García Sánchez has active participation in industrial property, franchises and copyright transactions and acted as trust advisor in Banamex and as Legal Counsel and Secretary of the Board of Directors of several domestic & international corporations from Japan, South Africa, England, France, China, Sweden, Germany, Spain and the US, such as Mitsubishi Corporation, Citibank, The International Finance Corporation, Warner, The Bank of Tokyo, MAC Funding Corporation, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Banner Pharmacaps, Lloyds Bank, Firstrand Bank, Coilplus, Wal-Mart, Swedbank, Grupo Name, GRG Banking, HP, Grupo Axis and others.
During his years of experience Mr. Garcia has acted as In-house legal counsel of Transportacion Maritima Mexicana, Banamex & Grupo Costamex (1985-1990; Senior Associate in Fernandez Braniff Abogados & Martinez Algaba, Estrella de Haro y Galván-Duque (1991-2007); Founder Partner in Rivera Belden & Garcia Sanchez (2008-2013); and Founder Partner in Athié, Santana & Garcia Sanchez (2014).
